Internships Full-Time USDA's Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) helps America's farmers and ranchers conserve the Nation's soil, water, air and other natural resources. We need people who want to apply their education and experience to make sure we all enjoy the benefits of productive soil, clean water, clean air, and abundant wildlife that come from a healthy environment. Helping People Help the Land The Pathways Internship Program is for current diploma/certificate/degree-seeking students and is designed to attract students enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions (ranging from high school to graduate school) with paid opportunities to work in USDA/NRCS and explore Federal careers while still in school. This program exposes students to jobs in the Federal civil service by providing meaningful developmental work while completing their academic requirements.

To determine the salary for a specific location go to: / You must have and maintain a valid state driver's license. Grade point average must be at least 2.0 and above. Students must be at least 16 years of age. Enrolled at least half-time at a qualifying educational institution.
Assists with or perform a wide variety of soil conservation duties such as maintaining accurate field notes, preliminary drafting and sketch work, recording of layout work such as contour lines and field boundaries, determine acreages, assembling maps and aerial photographs, and other related work.
Learns to performs surveys and set construction stakes for a variety of soil and water practices.
Assists in program and conservation planning for a variety of soil and water practices.
Assists in gathering and assembling preliminary data for use in developing and applying basic conservation plans.
Receives intensive and specialized training in all phases of soil and water conservation and related natural resource conservation programs.

REQUIREMENTS:
A signed Pathways Participant Agreement is required for employment under Pathways Program.
Must serve a 2 year trial period.
You must remain in good academic standing during the duration of the appointment.
If you are newly hired, the documentation you present for purposes of completing the Department Homeland Security (DHS) Form I-9 on your entry-on-duty date will be verified through the DHS E-VERIFY system. Basic Education Requirement:
GS-2: Completion of high school or GED diploma.
GS-3: Completion of 1 full academic year of post-high school study. An academic year of undergraduate education is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in an accredited college or university.

Proof of enrollment or acceptance of enrollment and good academic standing:

Work Schedules: Selected Interns will be expected to work full-time (40 hours per week) during school summer breaks, and may be allowed to work part-time during the school year, depending on location/state selected.
Work requires regular and recurring physical exertion such as walking on rough terrain, jumping ditches and furrows, climbing steep banks, or negotiating other terrain features.
Candidates must meet the definition of a student throughout the duration of the Internship appointment.
Housing Stipend: Depending on budget, NRCS may authorize a one-time gross housing stipend while working full-time during the summer if location selected for is outside the local commuting area of temporary or permanent address AND may also provide reimbursement for out-of-pocket expenses necessary to get the student from school to duty station and return to school at the end of the work period (summer). Availability and gross amount will vary by state.
Depending on the location selected, if students work for more than one year, they may be required to be mobile and work in other locations within the state selected thereafter.
The advancement of interns to higher-graded positions, prior to conversion, is strictly at the agency's discretion. To qualify for promotions, the Interns must have the same level and type of experience and/or education usually required for an initial appointment.
Non-Competitive Conversion Eligibility: Candidates selected from this announcement may be eligible for non-competitive conversion to a term or permanent position in the competitive service provided that all terms of the Internship Program are met and there is an available position. Conversion is not mandatory or guaranteed.
To be eligible for conversion, you must satisfactorily complete all training and Pathways Program requirements, complete at least 640 hours of work experience prior to graduation, and meet the position's positive education requirements at graduation. Refer to OPMs qualifications for the 457 series
Promotion/conversion to the next higher grade may occur without further competition once all legal and regulatory requirements are met to include management's certification of the continuing need for performance of duties at the higher grade level.
This position is eligible for telework and other flexible work arrangements. Employee participation is at the discretion of the supervisor.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
